Not many actors can say they’re the father of so many famous stars. Stellan Skarsgard has eight children, including well-known actors Alexander Skarsgard and Bill Skarsgard. He also has Swedish actor sons Gustaf, Valter, Ossian, and Kolbjörn.

While accepting his award for best supporting actor at the 2025 Golden Globes, Stellan joked that his real-life experience as a dad helped him in his new movie, Sentimental Value.

“My children have taught me a lot. I play a bad father in this movie, and my kids have really shown me what a bad father looks like,” the actor joked. Stellan previously won a Golden Globe for his role in HBO’s Chernobyl.

In the film, he plays a movie director who doesn’t get along well with his daughters, played by Renate Reinsve and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas. The movie was directed by Joachim Trier.

During his speech, Stellan also talked about how important movie theaters are. This comes at a time when fewer people are going to theaters since COVID-19, and streaming services like Netflix are becoming more powerful. Netflix is even trying to buy Warner Bros.

Other actors who were nominated for the award that night were Benicio Del Toro (One Battle After Another), Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein), Paul Mescal (Hamnet), Sean Penn (One Battle After Another), and Adam Sandler (Jay Kelly).

The Golden Globes show is produced by Dick Clark Productions, which is owned by Penske Media Eldridge—a partnership that also owns The Hollywood Reporter.
